Our Journey through Kashi– also known as Varanasi or Banaras– begins like it does for every Banarasi: amidst the lively hustle and bustle, with the sound of temple bell ringing like a soft call to the soul, echoing through the air, the call of the azan echoing, and from a distance, the song in the voice of Jagjit Singh Jee a bhajan: “Hey Ram, hey Ram, Tu hi data, tu hi pita hai, sary jag mein tera naam, hey Ram, hey Ram.
It starts at Shivala Ghat, as I walk past the revered kinaram Baba’s shrine. Along the way, I would always stop and look at a gate with the words “Vivek Dwar” written on it, and wonder, “What does it mean? Was it build by someone named Vivek, or is there a deeper meaning behind it?”
As time passed, I realized that what I was feeling wasn’t just a word; it was the spiritual energy of Kashi, the energy of all of us. It was a universal truth- Vivek or Wisdom- that goes beyond culture, religion, and time. A truth that connects us all in ways we often overlook, guiding us towards a deeper understanding of life and our shared existence.
This blog is my attempt to share those moments of discovery, wisdom, reality, chaos, and connection with you. As we walk this journey together, let’s uncover the layers of life, spirit, and truth that Kashi has to offer.
